SALUTING MAMA

When my mother decided to buy a house it meant that she had to accept a mortgage that was three times the rent that she was accustomed to paying. It meant that corners would have to be cut and adjustments would have to be made to the food basket and the 'look good' basket. More fibre
in our diet (cornmeal porridge) and no pretty dan-dan or expensive toys at Christmas. We were not amused about it at all...we were young..... Mama, however was pleased because she was now a HOME OWNER. It was hard in the first couple of years as Mama got adjusted to being a MORTGAGOR. The first bill paid in the home was the mortgage. Next JPS and the Water Commission. Whatever was left from her meagre salary was spent on food. Those were my slim and fit days....hahahaha......Over the years things improved. When we (the children) were old enough to be employed we made sure that Mama was comfortable. Nobody wanted to kill Mama for the hard times that we endured because we understood that it was for our own good. Now if Mama was going to parties and shopping tilled she dropped at AMMARS and having no money to pay the bills then there would definitely be a problem!  The CREDITORS all ate before us. If she had not done so maybe our home would have been repossessed and we would not have a light or water meter. Nowadays, because Mama PAID her DEBTS she can smile because she owes NOBODY!

Mama did not know that she was setting an example for her children to follow but this pickney was taking notes. As a matter of fact, none of Mama's children likes to be indebted to anyone or any organization. I guess we all learned! Thank you Mama!
